With the interest of providing Engineering education to the rural students, Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology (VCET) was established in 2001 under the patronage of Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha Puttur®. Upholding the vision of providing quality education in Engineering/ Business Administration/ Computer Application at UG/ PG and research levels; VCET aspires to disseminate education at par with industry requirements, also works to groom talents and turn them into top quality professionals.
Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha Puttur® (VVSP: Formerly known as Puttur Education Society) – a non-profitable charity trust, founded in the year 1915. For over ten decades, Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha has been the forerunner in the field of education across the coastal region of Karnataka, with more than 70 Institutes-starting from kinder garden to professional courses and research, both in Karnataka and Kerala. It is committed to impart quality education by maintaining high standards of discipline, sense of duty and moral values among its students, and to inculcate faith and pride in Indian culture and tradition.

VCET campus is spread over 25 acres of land with 55,932 Sq. meters built-up area, located by the side of Mangalore-Madikeri highway at Puttur, Dakshina Kannada. All the modern facilities required for quality education is provided with in the campus. A support system for effective academic delivery is what makes difference to the Institute. VCET has the best IT infrastructure for academic, administrative and support systems. To name a few: Leased line for Internet connectivity for 24 hours, with 230 Mbps speed, WiFi connectivity, Campus Network, Group Office – mail server, Library Automation System, Computerized accounting system, SMS service, Separate Hostel facility for Boys and Girls, Transport facility and many more.

Our placement process is simple yet aggressive. Majority of the students who are interested in securing jobs through campus placements succeed in doing so. As a result most of our students have their career paths charted much before graduation. The progress of the recruitment programs can be judged by the increasing total number of offers made each year.

The uniqueness of Training and Placement of this prestigious Institution is prevalent through the execution of meticulous planning and systematic schedule. It has been functioning untiringly towards the benefits of the students to strike out a difference in the corporate world. A record high of 350 campus placement offers were awarded to students from various branches of both Under Graduate and Post Graduate streams from Engineering and MBA/ MCA. An average of 75+ companies visit the campus, plus students get an addition of 30 off campus and pool opportunities for recruitment with the prominent ones being Indian Navy, Indian Army, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, SAP, Mercedes Benz , Bosch, Robosoft, Global delight, Mphasis, ACC Ltd, Indian Oil Sky Tanking, Indo Mim, Dilip Buildcon, Global Edge, 99Games, and Cadence to name a few. Hence, alumni of Vivekananda College are spread across the globe in various levels and positions.

VCET students actively participate in all sports activities and achieved several medals at the University and National levels. Through the cultural plat form ‘Bhoomika Kala Sangha’ students exhibit their cultural talents and bagged many prizes at University. Students get extra knowledge through several clubs, like Team Infinite, Manovegam, IEEE Student Branch, ISTE Students’ Association, etc.

Library is a store house of knowledge. Library is the heart of any Institute; Library is the foundation for learning. The VCET Library is housed in a spacious new building Krishna Chetana (ground floor). The library with a floor area of 877 Sq. meters. Segregated in to various sections like Lending, Reference, Digital library, Newspaper, Periodicals, Reading room etc.

Library collection is about 45047 volumes with 6216 titles on Engineering, Management and Humanities; it contains Abstracts, Directories, Yearbooks, and Biographical sources, Textbooks, Thesis, Dissertations, Encyclopedias and General books. Library subscribes to 48 technical print journals and more than 11,000 e-books. It has the capacity to accommodate 200 students at a time. It has membership with VTU e-Consortium, NDL and it is enabled with Wi-Fi technology.

The Industry Connect IoT (ICIoT) Lab at our premises intends to provide end to end infrastructure which enables the students to transform their ideas into socially relevant projects. The state-of-the-art laboratory helps researchers as well as potential entrepreneurs to explore the commercial angle of their work. This lab has enabled the students to transform ideation of projects to realization of products and will also provide foundation for start-ups. To support all these, VCET is having MoUs with various Industries like Hebich, CPCRI, AUTOSIMUL, ABS Electroplaters, ICAR, Master Planery, BSNL, RDL Technologies, CAMPCO, etc.

VCET has innovated ‘Viveka Jeevavardhaka’- a life support ventilator and donated to neighbouring Government Hospitals, to face the COVID situations. Our proud students have designed and developed ‘Automatic Hand Sanitizer Dispenser’ unit and we also own a proud project development ‘Arenanut Dehusker’, which has reached maximum for the benefit of the society. To announce a feather on the crown, we had 3 lakh plus footprints to our campus during ‘Krishi Yantra Mela & Dream Home’ mega event organized last year. Under ‘Unnath Bharath Abhiyan’, VCET is rendering its service to the villages for its overall developments.

Due to the efforts of highly qualified and dedicated faculties, our students are able to achieve academic excellence and secured many Ranks at University level. Also, our staff and students are able to fetch several grants for their Projects and Innovations from various Government and Non-Government Organizations like New Age Incubation Network (NAIN), Unnat Bharath Abhiyan-2 (UBA2), Vision Group of Science and Technology (VGST), AICTE, SELCO India, KSCST, Rotary India, etc.
